VINCI Facilities Supply Chain Awards 2019

Nov 2019

Colt were delighted to attend the first ever Supply Chain Awards 2019 held by VINCI Facilities earlier this month at The Monastery in Manchester.

The awards look to recognise the key role that suppliers working with VINCI play in delivering an outstanding service to VINCI’s customers throughout the UK. The Awards are centred on VINCI Facilities’ values and provide a great opportunity to celebrate the collective expertise across the Vinci Supply Chain and the suppliers who are consistently driving service excellence.

The Awards acknowledge seven key areas of working, the categories for these are: Excellence, Collaboration, Integrity, Discipline, Innovation, Health, Safety & Environment and Supplier of the Year. The Collaboration Category celebrates a collaborative culture to find new and improved solutions that benefit all stakeholders. The category gives suppliers the opportunity to demonstrate where through collaboration they have improved the delivery of service to VINCI customers or added value to the relationships with the teams and the communities within which VINCI operates. The beauty of this category is that in order to be considered for this award, the nominations had to be submitted by a VINCI employee. Colt were thrilled to be put forward by VINCI Commercial Manager Andrew McVicar for this accolade, recognising Colt’s continual efforts in supporting the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) on custodial projects.

Colt undertake smoke ventilation works within all of VINCI’s prison projects, assisting with drawings and information to support quality submissions. The process in which this takes place is a two-stage approach. Colt first become involved at the Initial Project Proposal (IPP) stage to provide initial costings and technical submissions, where 4 main contractors compete to secure the project. Once the bid has been put forward, it is scored accordingly and if this reaches a set threshold, the bid is then awarded to the most competitive contractor. The second phase is the Detailed Project Proposal (DPP) stage, where Colt work to develop and design the system in full. The nature of this phase requires Colt to work closely with VINCI to meet the requirements set out by the MOJ. John Perry, Business Development Manager for Custodial at Colt said ‘the crucial aspect in delivering a service to VINCI that excels in all areas, has been the building of strong relationships not only between the two companies, but most importantly between the individuals working in the small and efficient custodial teams on both sides’.

The relationship between Colt and VINCI has grown from strength to strength since late 2016, with Colt working on various MOJ projects located in the Midlands and the South. As a trusted advisor, symbolic of the increasing number of collaborative projects with VINCI, Colt are currently on site at three MOJ sites: HMP Hewell, HMP Swinfen Hall and HMP Woodhill, with further potential in the pipeline for 2020. Colt have been able to repeatedly demonstrate their vast experience and expertise in the highest professional manner on large and complex projects, all whilst maintaining client expectations as a key focus.

The Collaboration Category also saw nominations for Lorne Stewart Engineering, Green Man Environmental Services Ltd, Ward Security Ltd and Countrywide Grounds Maintenance (Wales). Operational Excellence Manager, Naomi Coleman and Operations Director, Gary McInerney were judging the category and although Colt narrowly missed out on the night to Ward Security Ltd, Colt proudly accepted the certificate for Highly Commended.

In accepting the award, Colt International’s Commercial Director, Steve Baker said ‘we are delighted with the award as this demonstrates our commitment to customer collaboration across our projects. Being an active member of the VINCI team through the pre and post tender process ensures that we are all working together to achieve our common goal’.

Colt look forward to continuing to work with VINCI to deliver together excellent customer services.
