Colt’s Knowledge Exchange Day, the third successful day of its kind, hosted by the Quality, Health, Safety & Environment team took place at the end of 2019. The full day event brought together 20 subcontractor partners ranging from fan and control panel suppliers to mechanical and electrical installers. The aims and objectives of delivering such days provides an environment that enables the transfer of knowledge between Colt and its suppliers, strengthens existing relationships and ensures efficient and safe working.
The day was based around a series of sessions that included ‘Listening & Learning’, so that safety experiences when on site could be shared, in order to ensure safety of workers remains a key priority and as well as continuing to maintain Colt’s exceptionally low incident rate that continually surpasses the industry average.
The theme that knitted all of the sessions together was the Colt approach to QHSE and the sharing of best practice procedures in the industry. This was executed through workshops and exercises to encourage engagement and feedback with attendees in order to facilitate a deeper understanding of what industry expectations look like. The day was essentially all about sharing the latest developments in good practice as well as what Colt has actively been working on in order to improve processes.
Addressing the outcomes of Grenfell and the Hackitt Report also formed an important part of the day’s discussions with competency and compliance key buzzwords repeatedly referred to. It is evident that the ‘bar must be raised’ and Colt will continue to demonstrate its commitment to action this through asserting its leadership position and demonstrating competence, which is why Colt sees the importance in bringing together all of its subcontractors. Technical Director, Conor Logan also delivered a CPD to attendees on ‘The general principles of smoke control’, which explores the history, legislation and applications of smoke control.
What started out as a one off exchange day three years ago, has now become a staple event in Colt’s calendar, as it provides the important touchpoint where Colt can come together with all of its suppliers at one time and embrace new learning as the industry continues to adapt to prevailing conditions. Colt looks forward to the next Knowledge Exchange Day in Autumn 2020.
