Colt wins contract for highest office in London

Currently the tallest office building in London, 22 Bishopsgate was originally planned as a tower building named ‘The Pinnacle’. Construction started on this project in 2008, but was suspended in 2012 following the recession. Initially proposed as a 307m building, CAA concerns brought this down to the final design of 278m tall. Once completed, 22 Bishopsgate will contain a staggering 120,000m² of office space.

Naturally, as the scale of the project is so big, Hotchkiss knew they needed a smoke control specialist with unrivalled experience and expertise. Based on the previous good working relationships Colt has had with them and our proven track record of professionalism on similarly sized projects, we were the obvious choice.

With Colt’s experience and knowledge behind the project, a suitable system was designed and ordered, with only one bespoke feature needed. The extract fans were positioned at level 25, which effectively split the shaft in two to separately extract down from the top or up from the bottom, depending on where the fire is located.

As well as providing effective smoke control for the main commercial-use areas of 22 Bishopsgate, Colt also developed a basement smoke extraction system for this building.
